Dilbert Creator Scott Adams Endorses Joe Biden - USSA News

Looking for opinions on my New Warriors re-write by a non-fan/non-comic reader

So I'm not a comic reader but the news of the various happenings with in the comic industry tend to peek my dabbling interests of political science and marketing.
So when I saw the new "New Warriors" backlash I couldn't get it out of head that night so I laid in bed for the next 3 hours just working out what could make the characters more interesting.
I recognize that by not being a comic reader beyond Dilbert I'm probably making a lot of mistakes but I'm honestly curious as to what actual comic readers would think of my changes.
I'm leaving actual character designs to far more talented people though.
So to start off with "Screentime" I came up with the idea that instead of some "Internet Gas" bullshit that instead he would have a large optical data storage crystal shatter over his head and embed thousands of various sized shards of the nanocrystals that make up one of these storage crystals.
Idea came from this Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/5D_optical_data_storage
Now where I take it and twist it from reality is that all of these shards pickup various electromagnetic waves like Wi-Fi, Radio, Cell towers, etc... and being embedded in his brain means that he is still connected to the internet 24/7 unless he is in a Faraday Cage. Now as for his character I wanted to depict a teen that is both overwhelmed by the amount of information he now has sometime unwillingly cascading through his head kind of like ADD and the fact that he can find out everyone’s secrets both good and bad.
Every text, every camera, every file server, if it has a electronic connection of some sort even a very low powered wireless one if he is in range he can access it regardless of passwords or firewalls. I wanted to highlight the he would make his own personal code of conduct not to speak of any of the things he now knows unless he is specifically working on solving a particular crime. So if he is searching for a murder and finds out that the murders best friend is a rapist he wouldn't tell anyone of this finding as its beyond the scope of his search.
At times I would show that the weight of basically trusting himself not to violate everyone's privacy unwarranted is a unspeakable burden for a teenager. However as a teenager he would find silver linings to his power, like literally unlimited porn of every type imaginable, watching movies right off of the studios hard drives, mining bitcoin in his sleep, most importantly for his combat ability being able to access a vast library of 3D printed weapon designs and the machines to produce these weapons thus meaning that he is armed with the latest and greatest small arms.
As I mentioned before if Screentime is in a Faraday Cage he loses his internet connection this can be used to give him a break from the overwhelming information he is constantly exposed to help him sleep or by a villain trying to remove his intelligence gathering ability.
The only other thing that can block his reception is his Team mate Deadzone's shields. So next up on my rewrite hit parade is Snowflake and the now renamed Deadzone. Power wise Deadzone is the by far the most changed. Where before he could only raise shields if someone he cared for was in danger, which is the single biggest load of shit ever. Now he can raise various sized shields and shield bubbles at will.
The thing about his shields is that they are all 3D shields meaning that while they are however tall and wide as Deadzone needs they are all 1 inch thick. Within these shields is a perfect void: No matter and no energy within. This means that say a Cyclops like laser blast is absorbed by this void until you get to a point where the interior of the shield is either full of energy or matter at which point the shield should be deactivated.
However Deadzone can run the risk of holding the shield longer and suddenly the shield becomes an explosive as this void is now so full of energy or matter that only Deadzones powers are holding them together. This has its tactical uses but it can be hard to judge as if he releases the shield to soon or too fast then he can create a vacuum bomb inadvertently. This requires an extreme amount of focus if Deadzone is to avoid collateral damage and if he makes a shield too big for him to hold and/or it doesn't receive enough damage to fill up the void completely before he drops it he can easily do more harm than good.
I should also note that while I mostly stayed away from speaking on the art design because I don't have enough skill to come up with a better original design than spandex suits. Deadzone and his powers are no longer pink. He looks the typical African-American athlete and his shields are pitch black due to their void like nature.
Snowflake is actually more or less unchanged as far as powers go being your typical cryokinetic. The biggest change I would make is remove her woke pro-noun nonsense as that doesn't add anything to the character.
Now the biggest change to both of these characters is their relationship to each other and how it effects how they interact with the rest of the world. So in some of the art that has been posted made them look to be far more than just brother and sister and seeing that they otherwise have relatively little less to make them standout as characters I decided to take that implied relationship and go straight for the teeth.
So yes they are in a fully active incestuous relationship, this massive dark secret has made them comparatively insular especially when it comes to making friends however its also given them a different perspective on life. They see the penalty for being underaged superheroes as a comparative slap on the wrist compared to their main “crime” and thus show a willingness to engage in their work that is matched by few others.
They are more emphatic then most of the other team members save for Screentime but that is because he probably already knows why someone is doing or acting the way they are. They are not woke however they simply accept people as they are and move on, not trying to draw attention lest that attention get turned on them and their secret gets out. This is their single greatest fear beyond loosing one another.
The last character that I managed to rewrite is Trailblazer. She remains the leader and the “mother” of the group much as she had done in her foster home. She volunteers a lot both to help others and to hide the crippling depression of taking on so many burdens. This however has still reared it ugly head in her eating habits leading to her heavy build.
After she gets sucked into the superhero role she one night hears a endless chanting coming from a box of things she had left from her parents among which is her grandfather's backpack. This backpack is a pocket dimension but beyond that time within the backpack can slow down greatly as much as 1000 years inside the backpack can pass for every second in the real world if the user so wishes it.
Trailblazer sticks her head inside this backpack and falls in and meets a ancient Native American warrior ancestor this is the spirit that gives the backpack its power. He offers to train her inside the backpack much like Goku in DragonballZ using the Hyperbolic Time Chamber to do a years worth of training in only a day.
Trailblazer takes him up on his offer and for the next 5 years or 5 hours in reality she is put through a grueling training regimen that turns the overweight teenager into a toned though still “thic” warrior. She is gifted a Spirit Tomahawk to serve as her permanent weapon that is always at her side as a symbol of completing her training and the new connection that she has with her ancestors.
Though armed with this Tomahawk she still can receive or summon weapons from her backpack though her control of this ability right now is limited to simple melee weapons or bows and arrows unless she has time to sit down and focus on the backpack completely to summon a more complex object like a gun and its ammo.
B-Negitive is where I finally threw in the towel. I have no idea who this Michael Morbius is and I couldn't see of any redeeming character trait or feature to draw from. Maybe if he was more human I could do a teenage Blade but I don't know how as a upstart writer to pull that off from the current state without just scraping the character completely.
I'm looking for opinions and feedback as I have little else to do while on shelter-in-place and when I posted this in Marvel I got nothing after 5 days, I'm really curious to see if I was on to something.

There is a Specter Haunting the Internet, the Specter of Euphoria.

While the word "gamer" has a lot of baggage these days, I will admit that I play a lot of video games, especially online video games. I can't even recall off the top of my head everything I've committed to or at least dabbled in, in the last few years, so I'll mention a few relevant to a rather weird phenomenon that is the subject of this story:
Star Trek Online (became a lifetime subscriber well before it went free to play. Especially during "weekly" story updates that were not so weekly, was a blast for a while. High point was probably Legacy of Romulus).
Planetside 2 (This one spoiled me: I just can't get into tiny-ass repeating maps with rigid 6v6 or 12v12 or 20v20 fights anymore so I'm stuck with this one when it comes to shooters)
Old Republic (worth playing through at least a few times for the class stories).
World of Warcraft (played for years, increasingly disappointed after Lich King, quit during Draenor, Legion not interesting me).
These are not the only things I've played recently, but what do they all have in common?
The Specter of Euphoria.
Each of them (yes, even Planetside 2) have had a weird thing happen in a commonly-shared chatroom. Be it Earth Spacedock, Vaiken Fleet Station, or Stormwind Trade Channel, a specter haunted them all, at roughly the same time, and at the time, I had no idea why they sounded alike.
This was primarily in Star Trek Online, so I'll derive the "conversation" from there, which was more like a guy standing on a street corner, waving an "THE END IS NIGH" sign, but with some specific differences, such as the wrath of God not being what to fear, but the wrath of, uh, well, the guy holding the sign.
I'll call the guy King Skynet, because it's a fine mishmash of his dreams and ideals and where he sees himself: ruling the world, but instead of a mountain of treasure around his Hyborean throne, there'd be Bitcoin. Somehow. He was already well into his prophecies, and according to someone I asked, was there for several hours already.
King Skynet: lol u laugh now, but all of u are replacable. u all will b replaced.
I had the overwhelming urge to chime in.
AngryDM: Replaced? In a video game? Are you referring to farmer bots and aimbots? We already have those.
King Skynet: players.... game devving.... all of u... replaced....
AngryDM: Okay. Who will buy the games?
King Skynet: the economy will be self aware.... u ever read Accelerando?
I had to look that up. Sounded like a cautionary tale in summary, or failing that, a speculative "this is what happens with runaway AI" as a thing to dread, not celebrate.
AngryDM: Okay. What's in it for you?
King Skynet: lol.... who do u think will b in charge?
AngryDM: Let me guess, you?
King Skynet: good guess....
This exchange went on for a while, a dreadful long while. It went on, also, in other games in a short span. I dare wonder if it was the same person lurking at the NC warpgate, in Vaiken Spacedock, in Stormwind. I'm not sure what'd be better: if it was the same guy or if it was him and his buddies, because this Specter of Euphoria haunted my corners of the online world for roughly a week like this.
Summary of the Specter's spooky prophecies: Very very soon, the world would be consumed by an uncaring AI with nothing else in mind but growth and self-perpetuation. People would be obsolete, except of course the wise Dilbert-like software engineers that were the true powers behind the throne.
Very soon after, because hockey-stick-shaped-curves are magic, the solar system would be reduced to base components and repurposed into tech toys.
Pretty soon after that, because hockey-stick-shaped-curves, the galaxy.
Pretty soon after that, the universe. Everything bulldozed, processed down.
Back to Earth Spacedock, here. "Okay. So everything in the universe is made into stuff, right?"
King Skynet: Things u cant even dream of....
AngryDM: What then?
King Skynet: I dunno, lol! prob kill myself when im bored.
There you have it: a brave new world. For months, almost a year, the specter was intangible, mysterious, with no clear connections I could find. This stuff simply HAD to come from somewhere, so I asked around, and one helpful soul linked me to this. Behold, the motherlode, the source of every fedora, neckbeard, trenchcoat, and set of fingerless gloves on the internet:
Behold, the Manifesto of the Dark Enlightenment!
"F. T. Marinetti posted:
1. We want to sing the love of danger, the habit of energy and rashness. 2. The essential elements of our poetry will be courage, audacity and revolt. 3. Literature has up to now magnified pensive immobility, ecstasy and slumber. We want to exalt movements of aggression, feverish sleeplessness, the double march, the perilous leap, the slap and the blow with the fist. 4. We declare that the splendor of the world has been enriched by a new beauty: the beauty of speed. A racing automobile with its bonnet adorned with great tubes like serpents with explosive breath ... a roaring motor car which seems to run on machine-gun fire, is more beautiful than the Victory of Samothrace. 5. We want to sing the man at the wheel, the ideal axis of which crosses the earth, itself hurled along its orbit. 6. The poet must spend himself with warmth, glamour and prodigality to increase the enthusiastic fervor of the primordial elements. 7. Beauty exists only in struggle. There is no masterpiece that has not an aggressive character. Poetry must be a violent assault on the forces of the unknown, to force them to bow before man. 8. We are on the extreme promontory of the centuries! What is the use of looking behind at the moment when we must open the mysterious shutters of the impossible? Time and Space died yesterday. We are already living in the absolute, since we have already created eternal, omnipresent speed. 9. We want to glorify war — the only hygiene of the world — militarism, patriotism, the destructive gesture of the anarchists, the beautiful ideas which kill, and contempt for woman. 10. We want to demolish museums and libraries, fight morality, feminism and all opportunist and utilitarian cowardice. 11. We will sing of the great crowds agitated by work, pleasure and revolt; the multi-colored and polyphonic surf of revolutions in modern capitals: the nocturnal vibration of the arsenals and the workshops beneath their violent electric moons: the gluttonous railway stations devouring smoking serpents; factories suspended from the clouds by the thread of their smoke; bridges with the leap of gymnasts flung across the diabolic cutlery of sunny rivers: adventurous steamers sniffing the horizon; great-breasted locomotives, puffing on the rails like enormous steel horses with long tubes for bridle, and the gliding flight of aeroplanes whose propeller sounds like the flapping of a flag and the applause of enthusiastic crowds. "
These guys are legends, at least in their own minds. They are at the crossroads between the many roads of being enlightened by one's own intelligence. Was this just a single very ambitious soul spending a week spreading the good news of the tech singularity and how it'll make everyone fear him, or did "Mencius Moldbug", Nick Land, F. T. Marinetti and the rest of the shadow basement council all decide to get Steam accounts at the same time?
EDIT: Oops. Seems like F. T. Marinetti was a century-ago prototype of the "Dark Enlightenment". Doesn't change much of what I said except to say "horrible people obsessed with technology-based power fantasies also existed before the Internet".

Notes on where the next rally may come from.

Originally posted as a reply, but reproduced here:
In time Ethereum as a platform can regroup and better itself, shaking off the ghosts - just as Bitcoin has done time and time again.
What it needs is a raft of useful DAPPs that provide tangible value to its users, ideally in an environment where the architecture itself is invisible. For example Facebook and Google are ultimately distributed through the transmission protocol HTTP (groundbreaking at the time), but the top and bottom layers are now so distant that nobody gives it a second thought and most people don't even know what it is. Ethereum needs to be the abstraction layer underneath genuinely useful services that can't run better on another platform, and then evaporate into collective unconsciousness as a robust foundation that few people outside of developer circles encounter 'in the nude' any more. When you can do something novel of value on Ethereum - and you don't know you're using Ethereum - then I'd say that's one of the maturity gates passed through.
I struggle to find great examples because in all honesty blockchain-based distributed end-user application computing is about the worst performance you could possibly get outside of using pigeons to transmit data, and decentralization alone is not a useful property of something like a social network or search engine. It may eventually find niches in such things as un-shut-downable online markets (dark and light), unstoppable non-realtime communication channels, or the big one; document transaction management signing - a mutlibillion dollar emerging market that I personally find Ethereum to be highly complementary to.
Useful DAPPs built on Ethereum will most likely be machine-machine interface elements more similar to APIs than human software applications, for use when routing of data through the blockchain is of specific value, such as legal notary archival. The first good enterprise-grade blockchain-based document caching and traversal solution for lawyers will bridge worlds and make millions - largely because Ethereum is useless as a client computer but unbeatable as an immutable ledger.
In addition to applications, Ethereum needs to support a diverse and successful portfolio of DAOs that within a short time frame can prove their worth as investment vehicles, returning greater-than-ipo returns to their investors without encountering technical problems. These might preferably be small DAOs with only tens to hundreds of investors, who can turn around real profit in under twelve months - think small Kickstarters and not venture capital - it's safer.
These DAOs need not necessarily be ownerless or without centralized oversight, nor would that seem recommendable. An example might be an automated web hosting company that can automatically buy excess storage or bandwidth from other nodes running in storage or data centers, and then rent it out on-demand to yet more DAOs who need web hosting or data provisioning for their business services - making a profit for its shareholders and paying for its own contract gas. One of the earliest descriptions of DAOs was that of DACs - totally automated robot companies that once released can provide far-reaching value. Think of how Ethereum could power the transactional backbone of an autonomous Amazon AWS-like operation.
As to the rally - In the non-virtual space Venture Capitalists invest significant seed money in new businesses with powerful business models. But it should be keenly noted that they almost never do so unless the business is already generating revenue or a marketable user base. They don't invest in ideas, they invest in demonstrated potential. (Relevant Dilbert). All smart money and savvy investors operate on similar principals. This is important so it's worth stating again: real money doesn't invest in ideas. It invests in demonstrated potential. So far Ethereum has demonstrated how to lose money, not how to make it as a business platform.
Now the first speculative bubble is almost over (maybe there are more, maybe not), I believe that the next time Ethereum The Token (ETH coin) will really accumulate true (non-speculative) value is when its ecosystem starts to deliver tangible and quantifiable financial returns for the DAPP developers and early investors of the DAOs to come - that's when we'll see real growth.
Up to now the platform has proved nothing save for being an overvalued and grossly overcomplicated money-transmission network, which is now suffering a trust and public image problem.
So what will spark a rally?
Well, now speculative confidence has evaporated and the only applied use-case has wound up, it will take the ecosystem starting to live up to its own idealistic hype of providing end-user value and genuine DAO returns to reinvigorate interest. As another user commented: "would you put your money in any smart contract now?" It will take a new generation of even braver investors to take the project back to its former glory.
In the short term ETH is now dwindling as just another post-bust speculative altcoin. The fork will obliterate the price in a lose-lose outcome and dark times are ahead for ETH token prices. But Ethereum was never about the token price - it was about the applications that can run on the EVM. So the token price may crumble but Ethereum's potential is unchanged from a week ago. It will just take real-world transformation of that potential into real results to spur the next wave of interest.
To challenge Bitcoin as a store of value and money transmission network? Probably never. To transcend its own hype and become trustworthy as a valued business platform? Perhaps 24-36 months.
One must also consider the remote possibility that the Ethereum experiment is for all intents and purposes finished, and its creators will learn lessons and move on to other greater projects. I reference Project Xanadu which was actually a more ambitious predecessor to the World Wide Web that, despite being the visionary creation of some very bright minds and light years ahead of its competition, was beset by problems and was eventually abandoned by the people who went on to build the WWW. Xanadu is what the web was supposed to have become, and in many ways even now the web fails to live up to the original goals - but most would argue that we have a robust and world-changing platform anyway.
Ethereum may not be 'it'. It may be too ambitious and its DAO ramifications too poorly understood. Maybe it's a little early. Maybe the time isn't quite yet, but perhaps through this turbulence something even greater will eventually emerge that can do only half as much but ten times better.
As William Gibson said — "The future is already here – it's just not evenly distributed"

Replacing politics and politicians with technologically-enabled voluntarist services

Scott Adams of Dilbert-comic fame suggests using tech to replace government within 100 years.
I consider this part of the osmotic strategy for change.
Build parallel institutions, offer people a choice between legacy government services and nouveau voluntarist technological services.
As they increasingly choose the voluntarist services, the transition will happen naturally, advantages and experience with these services bring in new members, and then the explosion of use happens when you import these services as native voluntarist institution in a free society like a seastead.
Bitcoin, Bitlaw, reputation tracking, technical property-title tracking, these can be options if you live in a place like the US, but they will be native solutions in a seastead.
And then things get really interesting.
People will flock to free regions because no-taxes. Because of a far higher standard of living thereby and investment opportunities kicked into overdrive by a laissez-faire environment.
We will brain-drain the world of their most productive members, as the US once did to the world, and then extend our system from free regions like seasteads to landed areas by provoking the world to jealousy with the standard of living we create.
Places with mere democracy, places still using politicians and legislatures will be seen to develop at a glacial pace compared to what a voluntarist society is capable of.
The young will embrace voluntarism first, then pass it around the world, first by using voluntarist services on top of legacy politics, then by replacing legacy politics with those services.
I tell you chaps, this is a strategy viable for world domination of the voluntarist ideology--through use rather than through education.
Through use and empowerment of voluntarist services, people will absorb voluntarist values.
If you give people control of their legal circumstances with something like Bitlaw, the amount of control and freedom that gives them makes mere voting and relying on a politician seem like a dinosaur by comparison, worse than that, people will realize they don't need politicians at all, that they're slow, that democracy results in irrational outcomes they don't like, that they can tailor law to themselves and their circumstances rather than having to put up with one-size fits all law that we have now.
This is where the movement for freedom philosophy has brought us, and we're going to change everything :)
